Fantastic Weekend

I left the city on Thursday afternoon and headed north, along the west coast. The first stop was Uddevalla and Bohusläns Museum for an event. What a cool building! They have one of the neatest souvenir shops I've ever been in... and considering all the "trading posts" I've been in over the past couple of years, that's saying quite a bit;-) The evening was spent watching the sun set over the ocean and remembering how lucky I am to get to see such a beautiful sight! The smaller fish were coming in to play in the calm water, and all of a sudden the mackerell came after them, causing the whole bay to bubble over with fish jumping everywhere... the wonders of nature!

I spent the rest of the weekend enjoying the ocean (it's up to 14 degrees centigrade now!) and getting some work done around the place. The lawn mower and I agreed to disagree, with it losing a wheel, and continuously stopping for no reason whatsoever, but in the end, the lawn was freshly mowed and I could kick back, enjoy an icy-cold cider, and admire the fruits of my labor!

This afternoon I went to see the flowers blooming in the Botanical Gardens in Gothenburg. More accurately, I went to SMELL the flowers blooming. They were heavenly! No matter where I walked (and I walked all over), the fragrance was fantastic and I was overwhelmed by all the colours, shapes, and textures of the blossoms. I hiked up to Änggårdsbergen and then over to Slottsskogen, because I felt I had to experience the gorgeous Azaleadalen while it was in full bloom as well. All in all, a perfect evening.

Getting the Word Out

Whew. I've sent a TON of Facebook messages today, letting everyone know that they can look at my application videos online. It's exciting and a little nervracking to put yourself out there so completely, but then I am an Extrovert like no other. My mother's favorite saying is that I started talking when I was barely 10 months old, and I haven't stopped yet! ;-)
I spent this past weekend trying to figure out where I'd want to go in Sweden, and I realized that 60 days just isn't enough! But, it's a good start, and I know I'd find a ton of places to visit on future trips. Some of my "must sees" include: Glasblowing in Skåne, the Swedish Match Racing days on Marstrand, watching the midnight sun above the Arctic circle, strolling through the Old Town in Stockholm, eating breakfast at the fresh produce market in Uppsala, and ascending Twisting Torso in Malmö. But there are also thousands of small and obscure places to visit, people to meet and stories to hear. I can imagine meeting people from all over the world at youth hostels, and finding out what they think is the best kept secret in Sweden...

Up and Running!

Got my application videos up and running on YouTube and on the Tourism Board website as well... I don't have the best editing equipment on my handy laptop, but I love a challenge ;)

In one of my previous jobs, I had terrific editing equipment, but terrifying deadlines... it taught me to do well under pressure!

I figure I should be blogging in English, since it's a more universal language than Swedish... but this blog is set up to tell you about my quest to get Sweden's Most Swedish Job. The Swedish Tourism Board is searching for the right person to travel all over this beautiful country and share their experiences with the world via the internet. I know I'd be perfect for the job because:

a) I have a sense of humor and can laugh at myself

b) I'm naturally curious and love telling stories

c) I used to be a scout, so I'm always prepared

I would love to travel to all the ends of Sweden, to find the best beaches, the most magnificent forests, the coolest mountain lakes and the most interesting flavor of pickled herring. It would be great if you wanted to take the trip with me:)
